about

ABOUT THIS TRACK:
On the heels of the release of their celebrated third album, "Becoming Creatures", Tremosphere release this new single written by Sylvia Solanas and recorded by the band in France and New York City.

Featuring Ms Solanas on piano, synth and vocals and Michael Serafin-Wells on guitars, bass, Moog synth and tape loops, it both finds the band expanding their sonic palette with new sounds and is at once a forthright and deeply personal response to the humanitarian crisis Ms Solanas felt needed to be articulated. The new single is available on Slugg Records.

"We can’t just watch and stay silent.
It doesn’t have to be like this.
Hope and work towards better.
Nobody’s Free Until Everybody’s Free."

-Sylvia Solanas

ABOUT THE BAND:
Tremosphere is the cross-continental duo of Sylvia Solanas (lead vocals, spoken word) and Bipolar Explorer co-founder Michael Serafin-Wells (guitars, bass, organ, synth, tape loops, backing vocals, spoken word, percussion).

Featuring Serafin-Wells’s signature post-rock, shoegaze-y guitars and Ms. Solanas’s breathy alto vocals, their sound has been described as “a kind of NYC dreampop seasoned with a dash of French wanderlust”.

On September 29, 2023, Tremosphere released their 3rd album, "Becoming Creatures", consisting of ten new songs written by lead vocalist, Sylvia Solanas. Recorded in both New York and France over a period of months, it very much felt like a significant step forward for the band. While the main themes echo their previous works - pain and love and struggles - "Becoming Creatures" marked a departure from the contemplative to a more feral state. Known to be outspoken about her chronic anxiety and mental health in general, and, as she’s looked deeper into her idiosyncrasies, Sylvia says she composed this album as a call to all humans to connect with who and what they truly are. Sylvia also played instruments (for the first time on record) on the new album.

The album received glowing reviews, again from the UK’s noted Fog Songs, who described the group’s sound as “post-rock guitars that are minimalistic and raw, with French-accented vocals that are sultry and dreamy and beautiful. They incorporate the fuzzed-out dreamy psychedelia of Mazzy Star, the femme guitar-driven shoegaze pop of Lush and the wistful downbeat alt-grunge of The Cranberries into their own unique vision and take you on a special top-notch dream ride.” Italy’s White Light/White Heat named the album its pick of the week, as did the UK’s Cando-FM - who also named it to their Top 50 releases of the year on December 14th.

Renowned music writer Ned Raggett named "Becoming Creatures" to his short-list of September/October Bandcamp recommendations and the band were especially delighted by Steven Fenton of the UK’s Phonotonal zine calling the record “an album with a dark edge, some angular moments and most of all a strong off-the-wall experimental vibe”.

The band was grateful for radio airplay for the album, which featured on Karen Vogt’s “Lost, Found and Lost Again” (CAMP Radio - France), Belgium’s Kool-Strings, London’s Soho Radio, Sheffield’s “The Night Train” and heavy airplay on both California’s KFJC and legendary freeform station WFMU, charting once again on the station’s Heavily Played Records for Autumn 2023 and topped off with a live eight song set on DJ Julie Dark's "Dark Night of the Soul" - which can be heard in its entirety here: wfmu.org/playlists/shows/134390

Tremosphere have released three albums and seven singles on NYC's Slugg Records.

lyrics

Over and over avert your eyes
Times again decay arise
A greater good that only feeds
On the children’s graves we fail to weep

All around, down the street
The sleeping man we’re ignoring
Down the block, three-stories
Curtains closed, nothing to see

Over and over avert your eyes
Times again decay arise
We swore the last time would be
A finite crime, we failed to heal

We’re guilty as child
Is born and gone
Within the same sunny day
